In the distant future, historians may well look back at August 11, 2020 as the day Bitcoin began.
True, Bitcoin had already been around for over a decade at that point. But in late summer of 2020, Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy (at the time, a business intelligence company) announced that the company would invest $250M into buying Bitcoin.
The move was a surprise, but whether he intended to or not, Saylor premiered an entirely new use case for the world’s leading cryptocurrency.
And Bitcoin would never be the same again.
So where did it all go right for Bitcoin, and what does it mean for ordinary investors? What happens when Bitcoin becomes money, gold, and growth – all in one?
We discuss that below.
MicroStrategy’s initial Bitcoin buy happened again. And again. And again. Each time, the idea of buying Bitcoin as a reserve asset became a little less strange and a little more appealing (to an increasing number of asset managers).
In many ways, these entities treat Bitcoin the same way traditional treasurers once treated gold or U.S. bonds. But Bitcoin strategies have moved beyond just piling up Bitcoin in digital vaults; they’re calculated bets on Bitcoin’s multi-role future.
Here’s what that means.
Bitcoin strategies have evolved beyond mere hoarding.
An increasingly large part of the total Bitcoin supply goes towards ETFs and funds.
Those funds provide indirect investor exposure to Bitcoin, without needing to directly engage in the crypto economy. No wallets, no seed phrases, just a typical account with any online broker, and any investor can profit from Bitcoin’s rise.
It’s also important to note that Bitcoin treasuries aren’t just for publicly traded companies like Saylor’s Strategy ($MSTR). Governments hold hundreds of thousands of Bitcoin between them. Sometimes those coins are held informally, seized from enforcement actions and confiscations.
In fact, governments are one of the largest Bitcoin holders when looking at the entire sector. Only ETFs and public companies hold more.
Treasuries have moved from the fringe to the mainstream, and Bitcoin isn’t the player in the game anymore. Solana treasuries are also gaining steam. DeFi Development Corp ($DFDV) has amassed over 620K $SOL and watched its own stock price soar over 4,000% percent.
Solana treasuries rely on yield generation and DeFi to leverage treasuries for long-term gain. It’s a more native integration than is currently possible with Bitcoin treasuries.
And BTC Bull Token, the first-ever Bitcoin meme coin, will help shape that future.
All of the above – Bitcoin treasuries, investments, increased demand, all of it – paints a very bullish future for Bitcoin
The project’s tokenomics use an innovative blend of crypto airdrops and token burns to encourage $BTCBULL and $BTC to move together. Every time $BTC breaks through another $25K gain, $BTCBULL responds.
Earn when Bitcoin’s gains pull meme coins up, increasing the $BTCBULL price. Earn free $BTC through milestone airdrops. Earn free $BTCBULL at the end.
There’s even staking at 56% APY during the presale.
Do you want Bitcoin to be money? Countries like El Salvador already accept Bitcoin as legal tender, and global payment infrastructure is following suit.
